What Is "Lobby Day"?
About Congress: Every American has 3 legislators
in Washington-2 U.S. Senators and 1 U.S. Representative (aka Congressmen).
Every Senator represents the entire state; each Representative represents
a district within that state. These people are elected to represent us-but
we have to tell them what we need:
Passage of the
Christopher Reeve Paralysis Act in 2006! Funding for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center Passage
of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act (selected legislators)
Find YOUR
legislators: Simply type your
zip code in the box below and enter to find your 3 Members of Congress: Scheduling
Appointments:
To meet with your
legislators you must schedule an appointment. Each legislator needs only
one set of appointments. It is most efficient if one person (or team of
people) acts as "point person" to make appointments for their Senators.
Each Congressional district will also need appointments. If you are
willing to act as the point person for your state/district, contact Betheny. Click
here to
see if your state/district already has a point person. U2FP will keep the
appointment page updated with appointment details as they are arranged.
Don't Be Nervous!
Don't be afraid to
meet your elected officials. They are human too; they're even from your
home state! On May 2, Christopher Reeve Foundation lobbyists will help us
perfect our lobbying approach and give us lobby packets. By the time we
get to Capitol Hill, we'll be pros! When you meet with your legislators,
you put a face on paralysis. It's a valuable opportunity to make a
difference.
