  1. Drs. Simon Archibald & Stephen Davies - Decorin and GRP-derived Astrocytes: Advances in SCI Repair
  2. Dr. D. Michele Basso - Evidence for Exercise Interventions for Neuropathic Pain After 
Spinal Cord Injury.   
As many as 80% of people with spinal cord injury (SCI) develop neuropathic pain.  This pain called allodynia is described as burning and stabbing which is triggered by innocuous stimuli.  Effective treatments are limited or absent for this type of pain.  Dr. Basso will report on her research into whether different types of exercise could reduce allodynia below the level of the injury.
  3. Dr. Hans Keirstead - Moving Stem Cell Research to the Clinic.  Dr. Keirstead will outline the progress of his research efforts to develop treatments for spinal cord injury. One treatment that his laboratory developed is now being tested in humans, and two others are being developed for human testing. Dr. Keirstead will discuss the challenges, failures and successes he has experienced on his road from the bench to the bedside.
  4. Dr. John McDonald - Changing Concepts in CNS Repair: From Stem Cell to
        Activity-Based Restoration Therapies
  5. Dr. Damien Pearse - Update on Research Findings at the Miami Project
  6. Dr. Yang (Ted) D. Teng - Functional Repair for the Injured Spinal Cord: Mechanisms
   gleaned from neural stem cell and polymer studies
  7. Dr. Wise Young - SCI 101 and Update on the China Clinical Trials
