1. Drs. Simon Archibald & Stephen Davies
- Decorin and GRP-derived Astrocytes: Advances in SCI Repair |
|
|
|
2. Dr.
D. Michele Basso - Evidence for Exercise Interventions for
Neuropathic Pain After
Spinal Cord Injury. As
many as 80% of
people with spinal cord injury (SCI) develop neuropathic pain.
This pain called allodynia is described as burning and
stabbing which is triggered by innocuous stimuli. Effective
treatments are limited or absent for this type of pain.
Dr. Basso will report on her research into whether different
types of exercise could reduce allodynia below the level of the
injury. |
|
|
|
3. Dr.
Hans Keirstead - Moving Stem Cell Research to the Clinic. Dr. Keirstead will outline the progress of his research
efforts to develop treatments for spinal cord injury. One treatment
that his laboratory developed is now being tested in humans, and two
others are being developed for human testing. Dr. Keirstead will
discuss the challenges, failures and successes he has experienced on
his road from the bench to the bedside.
